Cosplay participants (“cosplayers”) form a subculture centered around wearing their costumes and reenacting scenes or inventing likely behavior inspired by their chosen sources. In some circles, the term cosplay has been broadened to include simply wearing a costume, without special consideration given to enacting characters in a performance context.

There are any number of shops selling the Harajuku “style” but basically the styles of Harajuku are as individual and unique as their creators and are as anti-fashion as you can get – well, in the sense of the entrenched fashion world. Weird hairstyles and head gear, outrageous combinations of colour and patterns, Harajuku fashions truly reflect the artistry of their creators.

To me, the Harajuku fashions are the precursor of what’s to come in the 21st century just as the earlier fashions of the Hippy generation influenced the later part of the 20th century.

Harajuku is a type of style lots of japanese teenagers like. They’re like wild clothing. Or cosplay clothing. If you were to wear them in the U.S., people would think you’re weird. There’s this place called the Harajuku Bridge.

Harajuku (原宿) (Harajyuku) is an area of Tokyo, Japan surrounding the Harajuku Station. Harajuku is located in Shibuya Ward (in Tokyo) and is in Jingumae. The area has a worldwide reputation as one of the centers of Japanese youth fashion and culture. Tourists from all over the world come to Harajuku to view the Japanese teens who come together in the area to shop, eat, and hang out. The Japanese youth around Harajuku often wear extreme clothing styles influenced by cosplay, punk, gothic, lolita, hi-hop, and other international and Japanese subcultures.
